Haley E Rydell “Better Things”
“Better things” opens with a twangy, slightly fuzzy electric guitar. What at first appears to be a country influenced ballad quickly grows into a powerful indie rock banger reminiscent of the larger than life sounds of artists like Ethel Cain. The song features huge drums, ethereal walls of washed out guitars, and eclectic melodies. This song comes from Rydell’s new album “Midwestern Daughter.”
Tiger Blue “Pull The Plug”
“Pull the Plug” opens Tiger Blue’s new self titled EP with dark and chaotic energy. Guttural screams and furious guitar riffs collide with breakneck drums for an aggressive track full of distortion. The song features some lightning fast finger-tapping and some truly stressful breakdowns. To hear more from the band check out the rest of the “Tiger Blue EP.”
Mild Manner “llornita”
“llornita” is a song that offers some interesting contrasts. Soft, Indie rock guitars and vocals get paired with an upbeat, groovy bassline that carries the tune into a faster section with horns and a more intense, classic rock vocal delivery. The song plays with genre delicately, carving out a small, unique niche between a myriad of popular indie sounds. “llornita” is the bands first release in six years!
Kyrie Nova “Bullets”
Kyrie Nova is back with a new EP and “Bullets” is a perfect example of the artist’s new sound. The experimental, bass-forward instrumentals have been replaced with loud, angry punk rock vocals, distorted guitars and a full drum set. The song has a frenetic sense of urgency and taps into a sense of deep discontentment. It’s certainly a successful sonic evolution for Nova and it’s exciting to see an artist try such different sounds so well. Check out Kyrie Nova’s new sound on “Alison.”
G0ldilock “LMK”
“LMK” is a sonically futuristic track with deep, bouncing synth bass and spacey melodies at its heart. The instrumental is tastefully sparse, with a barely there snare sample and very minimal atmospheric pianos swirling around the mix. This allows the catchy bass rhythm and prominent vocals to take the spotlight and really shine. To hear more from G0ldilock check out the song “Waiting.”
Basketball Divorce Court “fck cptlsm”
“Fck cptlsm” opens the new Basketball Divorce Court album with some Midwest emo/punk vocals that really kick things off to an intense start. The progression from spoken word to full blown screaming is powerful and dynamic, paired with an instrumental that rises and falls in energy level right alongside the vocals, resulting in some super intense breakdowns and a truly breathtaking display of musicianship. Be sure to check out the rest of Basketball Divorce Court’s new album “Rebound.”
