Temporal Riff "SKINWALKER"
Temporal Riff creates a fascinating blend of eerie pop punk/and grunge on the song “SKINWALKER.” The instrumental is bare bones, without a ton of added flair. There’s a cold and ominous energy conveyed through the spooky lyrics and minor chord progressions. The highlight of the track comes in the form of soaring electric guitar leads sprinkled throughout. This song comes from the band's new album “BLOODWINE.”
13 Howell "Sisyphus"
“Sisyphus” is a collage of indie rock sounds. Borrowing from a wide range of influences, the song falls into this unique realm somewhere between early Radiohead, Cake and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Lyrically the song revolves around the story of Sisyphus, a Greek legend about a man cursed to roll a rock up a hill for eternity. This song comes from 13 Howell’s debut album “Thomasson Bomb.”
Unattractive Giant Monster "Godzilla Ruined My Pizza Party"
The vocals of “Godzilla Ruined My Pizza Party” are delivered in a very “Rock-Lobster”-esque tone. The comparisons to the B-52’s don’t stop there. The song is similarly absurdist in nature. The song also has a fun, old timey sound with tinny, distorted guitars and a tight drum kit. This song comes from the band’s debut album “Return of the Attack of the Mutant Pizza!”
The Briefly Gorgeous "Burnout"
“Burnout” screams Midwest indie rock with its big, melancholy guitar chords and pop punk drums. The song dips its toes into the Midwest emo, but only slightly. The song maintains a more upbeat energy throughout, though never quite venturing into “heavy” territory. It’s a great sound and executed perfectly. This is The Briefly Gorgeous’ first release.
andthecanaryfell. "Death of the Catalyst"
andthecanaryfell. describes their music as emotional hardcore, a great description for this song. Sadness and desperation ooze from the lyrics, delivered in both defeated singing and agonized screams. The song plays with the heavy to soft instrumental dynamics well and hits extremely hard during the bigger sections. To hear more from this band check out their debut EP “In Memoriam.”
MAEVUIM, AXEL "Public Desire"
“Public Desire” is a wonderful R&B/Hip-Hop collaboration between MAEVUIM and AXEL. The instrumental features trap drums, clean guitars and down pitched vocal samples. The vocal dynamic between the two singers is magical, with both saturated in syrupy auto tune. This song can be found on MAEVUIM’s new album “SIREN.”
